The Acorn Atom is made by Acorn Computers Ltd from 1980 to 1982. Later it was replaced by the BBC Micro, an upgrade originally known as the Proton.
The Atom uses the MOS Technology of earlier 6502-based machines that the company had been making from 1979. In fact it was a cut-down Acorn System 3 without a disk drive but with an integral keyboard and cassette tape interface, sold in either kit or complete form.

The Atari 1040ST - released in 1986 - is representative for the generation of home computers halfway the 80s. It uses a 16 or 32 bit Motorola microprocessor. The Atari TOS operating system is extended with the mouse controlled graphical environment GEM of Digital Research. It is sold with a color monitor or a high-resolution monochrome monitor.

The Exidy Sorcerer is a home computer released in 1978 by the video game company Exidy in the VS. The graphical properties of the Zylog Z80 based microprocessor were impressive. However due to lacking support, the Exidy Sorcerer became never popular in VS, in contrast to some countries outside the VS. In the Netherlands home computers attack a lot of interest at that time. An active Hobby Computer Club existed. Due to the successful Teleac course on TV about microprocessors even a licence was gained by the Dutch firm Compudata to produce and distribute the Exidy Sorcerer in Europe. The THT lecturer Jan Wilmink at the chair "Digitale Techniek" contributed to the Teleac course book.
